The Manta Ray is a 1996 Nerf Max Force blaster that holds 4 Mega Darts. It is no longer available for purchase because its home line has since been discontinued. When it was introduced it cost about $19.99. It got good reviews when it first came out.

Details[]

The Manta Ray is a very unique blaster, as it is both a dedicated shotgun and a shield. It is gripped like a gauntlet, and has a single large trigger in the middle. The Manta Ray can be used by right and left-handed shooters equally, and is one of the only blasters that is perfectly symmetrical, inside and out.

The trigger has three different ways to fire, as you can press on the either side to fire one side, or press in the middle to fire both sides. The trigger also has a gap underneath it by design to put your fingers when you don't want to fire, or want to make priming the blaster easier.

The priming handles are meant to be gripped like a t-pull, with one finger between the rods and the other in the hook to the inside.

The barrels are unique to the Manta Ray, as they are specifically designed to house the entire Mega Dart, including the head. Because of this design and the lack of dart posts, several other types of ammo can be put in the barrels, including Elite Mega Darts, High-Impact Rounds, and SuperMaxx Darts.

Durability Issues[]

The Manta Ray is famously fragile, as it is extremely susceptible to the blue part of the shell breaking, the spring reinforcements breaking, and sometimes even the plunger rods breaking. If one is to use a Manta Ray even a little bit, they should heavily reinforce it first.

Trivia[]

  • This blaster can fit and fire Streamline Darts, Micro Darts, Elite Darts, and Elite Mega Darts without rebarreling, but you will need to push the dart in more.
  • Although the packaging demonstrates kids catching darts on the blaster, this is actually very hard to do.
  • The Manta Ray is the only Nerf blaster ever released that is designed and advertised as a shield. Because of this, it is usually the only shield allowed in NIC Nerf wars.
  • The Manta Ray is the first shotgun to fire more than two darts at once.
  • The Manta Ray is the third shotgun released, after the Double Crossbow and the Quickstrike, which were both released in 1994.
