Nerf Blaster Wiki

The Pteranodon is an ammo type released in 2001 with the Pteranodon Launcher in the Jurassic Park III series of toys.

Details[]

The Pteranodon is designed to look like a dinosaur, specifically the Pteranodon. It is 8 inches long and 12 inches wide. It has a small plastic core that goes from just below the eyes to just behind where the neck meets the body.

The foam made for the main body is some of the cheapest foam ever made for an ammo type. It is akin to that of a styrofoam plate. There is a considerable amount of paint application, specifically all of the yellow on the head and all of the grey and the JPIII logo on the top of the wings.

Oddly, the head is cast at a 90 degree tilt, and is pulled into the correct position by the plastic core inside. The overall manufacturing is actually more complex than any other type of ammo known.

The Pteranodon is also fragile in nature due to its large size and thin foam wings and feet.

History[]

The Pteranodon was released with the Pteranodon Launcher in 2001. Only one was included, and they were never sold in a refill pack.

Little is known about its history otherwise, but some can be assumed. Given both the blaster's obscurity and the ammo's obscurity, it can be assumed that the product as a whole was a massive flop. The launcher is of a low quality plastic and the ammo type itself performs low in every possible metric. The Pteranodon itself doesn't shoot hard, far, accurately, nor does it look cool while flying(subjective). If the Pteranodon has launched farther it could have been better, but unfortunately it suffers from the poorest range of any ammo type, and an advertised range of only 10 feet.

It is generally assumed that the Launcher and Pteranodon were quickly discontinued and covered up due to their flop.

Trivia[]

- the Pteranodon is the widest type of ammo ever produced, at a solid foot.

- the Pteranodon is one of the only types of ammo that is wider than it is long.

- the Pteranodon has the lowest advertised range of any ammo type from any blaster, at only 10 feet.

- The Pteranodon is the only type of ammo to be modeled directly after an animal, albeit an extinct one.
