The Pteranodon Launcher was introduced in 2001 as part of the Jurassic Park III toy line.
Details[]
The Pteranodon Launcher is a single shot front-loading HAMP blaster. It has molding for Missile holders but does not include them. The blaster also features faux air brushing to make it look worn.
The barrel is heavily modified from other generations of the same blaster, as only 60% of the original barrel remains and the rest is replaced by a plus(+) shaped post.
The action of the front HAMP handle is extremely rough in comparison to all previous generations of the NB-1. Because of this, it can get partially stuck, which can cause the front of the blaster or the back of the handle to actually break off if enough force is applied.
History[]
The Pteranodon Launcher is the fifth and last generation of the NB-1 series, being preceded by the Thrust Launcher in 1989, the Batarang Blaster in 1990, the NB-1 in 1992, and the Glider Launcher in 1996.
The Pteranodon Launcher was undoubtedly very unpopular upon release, as it has the lowest advertised performance of any blaster, and meets those ranges. Atop this, the included Pteranodon's feet can catch on the launcher and possibly get bent or break off. Atop that, the launcher appears to be of lower quality than all previous generations, as its action is gritty and unsmooth in comparison.
It was the only blaster to ever be released in the Jurassic Park III toy line.
Oddly, this blaster is one of two known blasters to have two different copyright dates, one for 1989 and another for 1996. The only other blaster with this quirk is the 1996 Glider Launcher.
Trivia[]
- The Pteranodon Launcher is one of the few known blasters to have airbrushing done to it.
- The Pteranodon Launcher has the lowest advertised stock range of any blaster in history, at only 10 feet.
- The Pteranodon Launcher is one of, if not the only case of the projectile being larger than the launcher itself.
- The packaging is always shown to feature at least three languages, possibly hinting at an international-only release.
- The Pteranodon Launcher is actually serialized; this can be seen on the right side of the blaster just below the copyright dates.
- The Pteranodon Launcher has a sticker on the bottom of it warning users to not aim the launcher at people, which is not present in any other iteration of the NB-1.
